Cartagena was originally known as Mastia, after its first settlers, the Iberian Mastieni tribe in BC 1234. It is Spain’s second oldest city and is home to the Spanish naval fleet. Rich in history, architectural beauty, museums, night life and cosmopolitan shopping areas, Cartagena was also the home of the inventor of the submarine, Isaac Peral.
