1060 AD
During a period of instability in the Moorish kingdom (Caliphate), the territory starts to break up in smaller kingdoms, called Taifa. Two families dispute for power in Murcia: the Banu Tahir and the Banu Jattab. Finally, Ibn Tahir proclaims the Taifa Kingdom of Murcia: Murcia is an independent kingdom for the first time.

1091 – 1172 AD
The religious ascetic berber dynasty of the Almoravids conquers Murcia, and was then conquered by the Almohads (the Unitarians, Islamic puritanical group that had invaded the peninsula from North Africa) conquer Murcia.

1228 AD
The Moorish lord Ibn Hud revolts against the Almohads. Murcia becomes the capital of an independent kingdom that stretches from Gibraltar almost to Valencia.

1231 AD
Santuario de la Vera Cruz. A double-armed cross (known as the Caravaca Cross or Cruz de Caravaca) is said to have miraculously appeared in front of the Moorish king in 1231, 12 years before the Christians conquered the city.

1243 AD
Murcia is incorporated to the Kingdom of Castile through the Alcaraz Treaty by prince Alfonso, later to become Alfonso X - the Wise. Alfonso loved Murcia, as it was his first conquest. He is interned in the Murcia Cathedral.

1304 AD
The Murcian territory is divided between Castile and Aragon.

1394 AD
The Murcia Cathedral is founded. It took 360 years to build. In 1467 Cathedral was consecrated and the final part of was finished in 1754.
